The ANZAC legend is set to live on for generations to come at Eglinton Public School.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole has applauded the school’s commitment to ensuring the ANZAC tradition is not lost after its successful application for a NSW Government grant of $1250.
The funding comes courtesy of the 2023 ANZAC Community Grant Program and will allow the school to develop a dedicated garden space where students and visitors can reflect on the impact war has had on people and the environment.
Mr Toole said it will be an area referred to during the school’s ANZAC service and will contain a commemorative plaque attached to a large piece of sandstone.
Eglinton Public School assistant principal Joanne Michael said the sandstone pillar can be a symbol of many things – the lone soldier, the difficult search for peace, the hardships endured by families, the eternal flame or the enduring nature of hope.
“During the lead up to ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day, metal poppies will be placed among the garden to remind us of the contribution soldiers past, present and future have on our security and nationhood,” she said.
