Bathurst Mountain Biking (MTB) Club have had success in securing a $4,000 grant from the NSW Government Local Sports Grant program to improve their facilities.
On 35 hectares of bushland leased from Bathurst Regional Council, Bathurst MTB Club has been running for over a decade now and forms part of the Bathurst Cycling Park which includes the Bathurst Cycling Club and the Bathurst BMX Club.
This grant is a first for the club who intend to put the funding to good use by improving track conditions including the creation of dedicated beginner and children tracks and purchasing a mower for maintenance purposes.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole congratulated the Bathurst MTB Club committee.
“This is a completely community-built club that is only running thanks to the dedication and passion of its members, they are well and truly deserving of this funding support,” Mr Toole said.
“There are over 10km of trails open to the public for use at any time and a variety of gradings for any ability from beginner to professional riders.”
“I congratulate the club on their efforts in securing this funding and am looking forward to seeing the improvements to the tracks completed.”
Club committee member Norman Wise said the club was thrilled to receive the funding.
“The NSW Government Local Sports Grant will mean a great deal to providing a safe, off-road cycling facility to the Bathurst community and the many families with young children who use the park,” Mr Wise said.
“The Bathurst MTB Club has built and developed everything in the park without any previous grants or government support.
The club’s 90 members meet every Wednesday night at 6pm for an hour of racing fun and a race competitively once a month on a Sunday morning.
