Member for Bathurst Paul Toole has announced Black Spot funding for a mini roundabout to be installed at the intersection of Peel and Morrisset Streets in Bathurst.
The $127,625 project is to be delivered by Bathurst Regional Council.
Mr Toole said the Black Spot Program makes an important contribution in reducing the road toll.
“Road crashes are a major cost to our citizens every year and Black Spot projects target those road locations where crashes are occurring,” he said.
“By funding measures such as traffic signals and roundabouts at dangerous locations, the program reduces the risk of crashes.
“Programs of this sort are very effective, saving the community many times the cost of the relatively minor road improvements that are implemented.”
Mr Toole said Transport for NSW had advised Bathurst Regional Council of its success in gaining the Black Spot funding for projects in the 2021/2022 financial year.
“I have inspected that intersection with Cr Warren Aubin from Bathurst Regional Council’s traffic committee and it’s clear that installing a roundabout at the intersection of Peel and Morrisset Streets will ensure better and safer traffic movements through that location,” he said.
“The announcement of this project follows on from the new roundabout recently installed at the intersection of Rocket and Rankin Streets in Bathurst.”
Cr Aubin said he was pleased to meet with Paul on this matter a number of months ago, and to see the funding come through will ensure a safer intersection for all motorists in this busy part of town.
