Centennial Park located in the heart of Bathurst has seen a recent rejuvenation with stage one of works to upgrade the park well underway.
Now, the NSW Government throwing further support behind the development by contributing $887,580 to fund stage two.
Currently, earthworks for stage one is being completed. This includes the formalisation of the main cross paths with new concrete paths being installed, plus more trees and lights to be installed.
Stage two works to Centennial Park involve the construction of a new playground and additional passive recreation elements in line with Every One Can Play design principals making this green space a place to be utilised and enjoyed by all peoples, regardless of age or ability.
Aspects of the works will include:-
· Various play equipment including accessible play elements
· Picnic shelters
· Various table and bench seating
· BBQ
· Lighting
· Hardstand areas
· Path connection to the amenities building and central axis path
· Tree planting
· Lawn sections
· Irrigation
Member for Bathurst said this funding has been made possible by the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
“We all know how important it is for communities to have great places to come together to build social connections and boost their wellbeing through sport or community events,” Mr Toole said.
“This has been a passion project for the community to see this what was almost a vacant block into an enhanced green space for everyone to enjoy. It is great to see this vision finally coming to fruition.
Mayor Robert Taylor said he is committed to making this space a vibrant area for the community to enjoy.
“Centennial Park is part of our city’s history, and we want to preserve and improve this space for future generations to enjoy,” he said.
“The upgrade of Centennial Park will provide the necessary park infrastructure and services for the community and most importantly maintain and enhance the tree canopy cover that already exists.”
Round Five of the Stronger Country Communities Fund will support local community and sporting infrastructure projects, street beautification, public programs and events that display the best of local character and community spirit.
The Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $3.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure in the regions.
